6685 Ribbon Line Array Meter Module

images12.jpg

The first CGN6685s were introduced at the 2003 NSCA Show in Dallas.  Pictured here is an improved version of the original 6685.  The product has evolved over the years. We are constantly working to make a better line array loudspeaker that is a cost effective solution for many applications.

The 6685 is a ribbon line array product that quite simply only drops 3 dB in sound pressure level for every doubling of the distance as opposed to the 6 dB drop for conventional loudspeaker designs. It is the long throw solution for reverberate spaces and outdoor situations. It's a compact system that is capable of extremely high output. This Loudspeaker has ultra wide horizontal dispersion (over 100 deg.) with "Laser Beam" verticals only a few degrees depending on the frequency.  Essentially, vertical coverage is the height of the array and that means less room problems. Another big advantage is the increase in gain before feedback on stage. For a technical explanation of how line array loudspeakers work, please go to the Line Array Design Guidelines link below.

  • Each loudspeaker has five 8" Push Pull Neodymium Ribbon Drivers & six 6.5" woofers. One Module is about 1 meter high. The 1/2 circle cylinder design measures 39.94" H x 10.75" W x 6.62" D. The Modules daisy chain together 1,2,3 meter etc. steps and lock together to form a continuous line array of audio building blocks. Each module is only 38 LBs Total weight (17.3 Kgs.) ***** 26 LBS (11.8 Kgs.) all neo version is available. The composite enclosure has an internal rigging skeleton with eight 3/8"-16T Flypoints (ATM)that have a minimum 5 to 1 Safety Factor with an additional 2 to 1 fatigue factor due to materials weathering. We use ATM flyware that is certified compliant with overhead suspension standards through out the globe. The internal bracing and aluminum skeleton serves to: Distribute the Load, Reduce Torsion, Distribute & Absorb Tension and Support Joinery Bonding. Working load limit on each thread hole is 2000 Lbs. (909 Kgs.), Flyware fastners are all 3/8"-16T Grade 8 through top/bottom of steel plates 1.25" counter sunk Flat Head Cap (Use 5/32" Allen)and on the sides, 3/4" long Hex Flange head. Caution NEVER REMOVE the TWO SMALLER ALLEN HEAD SCREWS Below the HEX Flange Head Screws when attempting to fly a cabinet. They are part of the internal brace system and are not serviceable by the end user. For any questions regarding flying issues please call the factory. Internal Brace working load guidelines for cabinet suggested at 600 Lbs. ( 272 Kgs.) The working load limit of each internal brace is 246 Lbs./ 112 kg with a 10 to 1 design factor. The CGN6685's unique technology combines the advantages from the sum of many elements, such as a cabinets high strength design that is made from light weight materials. It's now possible to fly a previously unprecedented number of line array cabinets in a row. For example, when flying from two points it's technically possible to rig 31 modules (thirty one meters high!) of the standard CGN6685's in a row or 46 modules (forty six meters high!) in a row, of the lighter all Neo6.5" versions of the CGN6685 cabinets. Obviously, your trim height, not rigging hardware WLL factors will be your limiting factor during most set ups. When suspending enclosures, Remember the system is only as good as the weakest link. Always THINK SAFETY FIRST! Avoid Shock loads and inspect your flyware regularly for any deterioration which may result in the loss of original strength. Always try for a straight, neutral hang, Angular lifts should be avoided when ever possible. Our Flypoints are designed and manufactured from parts that are constructed in strict compliance to the following standards.
United States of America: ASME B30.20, ANSI E12-2000, OSHA 1910.184, OHSA 1926.251, UBC 16 XX, UL 1480 31.3
    European Community: CE
    Germany: VBG 70, VBG 9a
The flypoints are manufactured in accordance with ISO 9001 quality standards.Rigging hardware info at www.atmflyware.com
Remember use only Grade 80 Alloy Chain for overhead lifting purposes(Please NO dog chain). A great source for chain, cable, wire rope and hardware is Fehr Bros. Industries, Inc. New York PH 914-246-9525
A great source for "Slings & Things for Slings" is CableCo, Los Angeles PH 323-583-8671
We like to use our local vendor www.chicagohardware.com for forged 3/8"-16T eye-bolts and shackles. They are also distributed through Grainger if you need will call service.
  • Each module is 100 dB 1W/1M SPL, 480 W cont. power handling with peaks to 1.25 Kilowatts (200 ms). Frequency response 80 Hz - 20 KHz+-3 dB. DSP processed or Analog Active Biamp with 12 Ohm LF , 20 Ohm HF impedance loads Recommended X-over 675 Hz. The Crossover Frequency to the ribbons can be as low as 250 Hz in Processed systems for certain applications. There is an optional passive X-Over with the drivers wired for a nominal 8 Ohm impedance. Each Cabinet has Top & Bottom inputs both Speakon and screw terminals in parallel. 8" spade lug to Male/female disconnect jumpers that neatly (unseen)connect underneath between interlocked modules are available. If you want to use the system as a fully Digital Signal Processed rig we can provide all of the settings needed for most industry standard DSP X-Overs. Please note when connecting multiple cabinets impedance loads are
1 Cabinet LF 12 Ohms HF 20 Ohms
2 cabinets LF 6 Ohms HF 10 Ohms
3 Cabinets LF 4 Ohms HF 6.7 Ohms
    * Note Ribbon HF section has a flat impedance curve and is essentially a purely resistive load that is easily driven by almost any amplifier.
  • Composite enclosure consisting of a Baltic Birch plywood baffle attached to an internal Aluminum/Steel rigging skeleton with a half tubular back form filled with Poly Urethane to create rigidity without the added mass. The cabinet is covered with a Neoprene backing material, an esthetically  pleasing fabric "grille sock"(white or black)slips over the system covering everything but the steel end plates. The system is already weather resistant but "Weather proof" version is also available which includes the water proof treatment of the cones, additional internal nylon spider web grille , Stainless Steel Hardware etc.for a nominal charge. This helps to protect the system from driving rain, makes the drivers more UV stable and salt water proof for mobile/ marine applications.

The system was designed and engineered with ergonomics in mind. All of the Cabinet Modules have Teflon gliding feet on the bottom. Cabinets move with ease on stage , during transport and nest together in pairs when stacked. Two Cabinets can bolted together with optional Dual steel Couplers locking the column as tall as you need. If you want to connect three cabinets together we offer a three high coupler or just use a pair of 4 foot sections of Unistrut.( Engineering Specs. Available) www.unistrut.com
The Cabinets also have a bottom steel 1.5" (38mm, Penn-Elcom.com)stand socket for tripod stand mounting or pole mounting, maybe with a subwoofer etc. & FYI Because the CGN6685's are so light weight (COG proximity/socket) you can go up or two high on a typical Ultimate tripod stand.  One person can move and set up a three high stack.  Safety cables/Tie down straps are of course recommended. There are also four button head 1/4"-20T mounting bolts on both the top and bottom of the cabinet for permanent installations to walls, pipes , Unistrut, "C" clamps and Stud plates using Omnimount 60.0 series or Allen Multimount MM-022 brackets. Bracket info at: www.omnimount.com , www.allenproducts.com
Options: Black finish , White finish, "Water Proof" version, & In-wall version >fits within 3.5" stud depth. Call for Custom finish quote that will allow you to stain, paint or carpet your cabinet to meet your archetectual needs.
